Reviving Your Mac Musicomputer

If you've been doing music for any length of time, you know that you don't have to be into recording for computers to be a big help. They help out in every other area of life, so why should your music career -- whether it's full time or part time, amateur or pro, singing or drumming -- be any different?

Even if you're not ready, willing or able to try building a sub-$1000 recording studio (not counting the cost of the computer, which you already have, of course), you can use your PC or Mac to do flyers for gigs, keep the books, tweak digital photos and even movies, pursue some (legal) e-mail campaigns and lots of other things. But if you have jumped off into computer-based digital recording (as opposed to digital recording using a stand-alone, hard-disk-based, all-in-one studio like a Roland V series or Korg D series), then the computer is more than your bookkeeper or staff artist. It's your co-producer.

You're the boss

Sometimes you might not feel like you are the boss, though, especially when the computer freezes in the middle of a session, or crashes during an important up- or download, or does any number of other ungeeky things. It is not uncommon for both Macs and PCs, when used as the hub of a busily spinning music production environment, to become occasionally "uncooperative." It might not start up one day, it might start and freeze at some point, it might just sit there or it could heave and chug and go "sproing," too.

Let's take a look at what to do when the reluctant or troublemaking co-producer is not your human partner (for once) but your computer. This time we'll look at dead, dying or dysfunctional Macs, and another time we'll talk about PCs. We will deal with the most common situations, where you have power and all the pieces are hooked up right (double check your cables anyway), but you get the infamous blinking question mark, a frozen desktop after start-up or a start-up chime followed by zip, zero and nada.

Work the problem

There are various startup methods that allow for getting around simple "admin" password protection, which is what most situations involve; in other words, there's probably no fancy third-party software running that will defeat most or all of the following workarounds. None of the methods are completely painless or free, but you have to decide how important it is for you to have the contents of that drive on the unbootable machine. Now, let's break down the methods for you one at a time.

(1) By holding the "c" key during startup, you can boot from a CD or DVD with a valid Mac System on it. Some G4's (silver-door tower and earlier) will boot into either OS 9 or OS X, so you can get one or the other versions or both. You can buy the final OS 9 package (9.2) for about $50, or you could buy Mac OS X with the latest version (10.5) setting you back $100 or so. If you don't need the newest version of OS X, you can buy 10.3 or even 10.2, which will cost you significantly less than the latest release. If you do start up with a Mac OS installer disk, you can go to Reset Password on the Installer or Utilities menu (depending on what version of OS X you get). And then you're in business.

(2) Another startup option is to do just that -- meaning hold the "Option" key as you hit the power switch or keyboard button. This allows you to choose a boot volume among any connected drives, including Firewire devices. The only way this will work is if you have an external Firewire drive, with a Mac OS and some utilities installed, attached to your computer. Although the Mac also has USB ports, you cannot start up from an external USB drive; don't believe anyone who says otherwise, just look it up on Apple's site for yourself. Who knows why they made 'em that way, but they did. If you can beg, borrow or steal an external Firewire drive with a System and some utilities already on it, this will definitely work. Then you can back up whatever you want from the drive before reformatting it. If you cannot borrow such a device, one would cost you about a hundred bucks, plus you'd need the OS to put on it, so this is a potentially pricey option.

(3) A slightly more geeky approach is to hold down "Option-s" while starting up, so that OS X boots into "super user mode." No password is required to muck around with what is called "Root" access. Of course, you would be using Unix commands at this point. If you don't know Unix at all, you could probably get enough help from Wikipedia and other geeky sources online to learn how to seek out and disable the password protection scheme. If you are not a "computer type," though, this is probably not a realistic option for you. This is a free option, money-wise, but you can do untold damage mucking around in the Mac's brain, if you will, if you're not sure about what you're doing.

(4) Finally, you could start up while holding the "t" key down, and turn the Mac into a Firewire target disk. What this means is that you could simply plug the computer into another Mac, and that other Mac will see the first as an external drive. Then you could copy all the files you want to keep to the borrowed Mac, or to an external drive that you have also hooked up to it. This option, like #2 above, requires coming up with some equipment from somewhere, and of course you want to beg or borrow it (not steal) it if money is tight. Do you have any friends with a Mac laptop (a third millennium PowerBook, iBook, or new MacBook or MacBook Pro with the Intel chips)? Sure, you could use a newer iMac or a Mac Pro tower, but a laptop sure would be easier. You will also need a Firewire cable (an "A to A" one, meaning both ends are the same size).

You're not alone

If you have a sad (or konked out) Mac, this is what you are up against. It can seem hopeless at times, but it's not. In the Old Days, Macs were fairy easy to troubleshoot and maintain. Not so any longer with the Unix-based OS and more sophisticated hardware. But, with a little help, you can do it. If you need more technical assistance, there are literally hundreds of Mac-centered websites where everyone from noobs (beginners) to power users can get hold of the best Mac troubleshooting help and even some freeware or shareware repair utilities.

The Mac community is still a supportive one, so keep asking for assistance, and rendering some to others however you can. You may be surprised by the amount and quality of the assistance that other Mac folks offer you. With some help, some persistence and perhaps a bit of luck, your Mac's sad startup face -- and your own -- will be home once again to a smile.

Helpful Tips For Getting Your Perfect Guitar Tone

The guitar tone is the timbre, color and quality of the sound. Basically, it's how your guitar sounds like when you play and record. Thus, it's very important getting your perfect guitar tone. For serious guitarists, it's not enough to just play incredibly well, but sound amazing while doing it.

Know that there isn't just one way to getting your perfect guitar tone or even such a thing as one perfect guitar tone; it all comes down to taste and what you feel is right for the song. Plus, no matter how great a tone you get, your guitar won't sound good if it's out of tune or your playing is bad. However, also know that buying expensive equipment won't automatically give you a better tone. What's more important is knowing what settings to tweak and how, so you can use your current equipment to achieve your perfect guitar tone. That, and mastering the guitar, of course.

If you're having trouble getting your guitar playing sounding great or translating a sound in your head into a guitar tone, our helpful tips for getting your perfect guitar tone will help you to know what to tweak and hopefully how to find the guitar tone faster and more efficiently...

What Creates the Guitar Tone

One of the first helpful tips for getting your perfect guitar tone is to know what creates the guitar tone itself. While technically any aspect of your equipment can change your guitar tone, there are some things that affect it more than others. The type of wood your guitar is made of, the strings you play with and the pick you use, the cables you connect with, the guitar amp and speaker cabinets, any guitar effects and pedals you plug into, and, naturally, how you play.

In fact, the most important element in getting your perfect guitar tone is your playing ability! The better and more professionally you play, the better and more professional your guitar tone will be. While buying the best equipment can help you tweak your tone, it won't make you sound better if you don't know how to play. The reason the greatest guitarists sound so amazing is because they play amazingly well!

Much more so than getting the same equipment as your favorite guitarists, learning to play on their skill level is what will make you sound like them. If you focus on improving your playing and mastering the guitar and couple it with knowing what settings to tweak and how, you will be well on your way to getting your perfect guitar tone.

Also, note that while things such as microphone placement and equalization affect the sound of your guitar during recording, it's not necessarily changing the tone, just the way it's captured and processed for the song.

Guitar Maintenance

Treat your guitar well, including the body and the strings. Maintaining a good condition of your equipment will ensure that your tone doesn't degrade with time. However, strings inevitably wear out with playing and should be changed frequently. If you want to know how often you should change them, please check out our useful tips and guidelines on how to change guitar strings.

Hey I heard a lot other stuff effect the guitar tone such as your guitar pick, cables, amp, and effects? How should I approach these to get a good guitar tone? Visit our site our site to find out.

Is Bass Or Guitar Harder To Play?

The question of whether bass or guitar is harder to play often comes up in the minds of guitar beginners. Some even think that the bass must be easier to play because it has less strings than the guitar. Right at the beginning of guitar playing, instead of just trying to learn a chord or finding a course of guitar lessons on the internet, newbies always start looking for the easiest or the "best" way to learn guitar. So wondering about which is harder to play between guitar and bass is another question that holds up progress.

The guitar has six strings while the bass has only four but the thicker strings on the bass make it more difficult to play. The choice of which notes to play is harder for a ball player. Once the band has departed from simple chords, playing the root note is not enough for the bass player.

Playing bass needs a completely different frame of mind which needs to be learned and practiced. The bass player does not just stand there and play in the background. He is supporting the drummer and the rhythm guitar player.

There are certain musical styles that are less complex than others. Take punk rock, for instance. You learn a few power chords and you are almost there. For bass players pop rock is not too difficult. Hard rock is more challenging, and genres based on the blues tradition offer the new guitar player a little more background to absorb before he can consider himself a player.

Some musical genres feature the bass in the role of a lead instrument. Funk rock, jazz, groove metal, soul or reggae all demand alot from the bass guitar player.

The fact is playing bass guitar or regular guitar is as easy as you allow it to be. People say that bass is easier to play, but the guitar student's attitude can change that.

The main thing is your love for music and your wish to play and create music. If you can keep time, have some idea when to be a part of the group and when to be at the front, then you have a start to being a guitar or bass player. Once you start playing, how hard it is does not matter.

For the bass player who started out learning the guitar bass is usually easier to learn. That is because the guitar player already has a feel for the instrument, His body has already become used to fingering chords, playing scales and using a pick, so most bass players who started with the guitar will advise others to do the same.

The most practical approach to the question of whether bass or guitar is harder to play is to take a lesson or two in both. If you cannot afford lessons, check out the free guitar or bass lessons on the internet. Another way to decide is to watch guitar and bass players on YouTube. If your feelings go towards either the guitar or bass, then that is where the rest of you should go. Whether it is harder makes no difference.

Games in Music Lessons and Their Benefits

How my music school grew from 6 to over 200 students in under two years.

When my husband and I started our music school - everyone around us thought it couldn't be done. It had not been done in our home town much and no one we knew had ever quit their day job as a teacher to go and run their own music school business. we weighed up the pros and cons of it all and decided after it all that it was a challenge that we wanted to pursue. So we went ahead and before we knew it we leased a commercial premise, found ourselves a program and we were on our first opening day ready a raring to go!

Our first term was tough- we enrolled thirty students and half of them quit within a few weeks. We couldn't work it out - here we were fully established, credible teachers and it wasn't working. What were we doing wrong?

We could no longer think the same as we previously did in working in schools and operate the same teaching methods because they were not working. Something we were doing was not right and we had to find out what it was quickly.

We talked to our six families that we had on board and any families which came through our doors. We asked them all the one simple question:

"What is it that you would like to get out of have music lessons for your child?"

With this question we found out some very important information. Because our parents were doing this in their free time with their children, it had to be FUN. A parent didn't want to pay for lessons if it was all too hard or if their child didn't enjoy it and they definitely didn't want to bring their children because it was good for them. The other observation we made was that if a parent enjoyed lessons, then their child would as well. The parent didn't even have to be in the room, but when a parent asked their child how their day was and what happened in music, if their child was excited about it, it would in turn make the parent excited as well. It had to be fun for both child and parent.

With this information, we started implementing different ideas. The children would tell us that they enjoyed playing games and so we took this to the next level. In fact everything in our music sessions became a game of some description.Teachers never had a chance to sit down in our school - they were too busy having fun and playing games. Notes would be learn't with stories and note races, kids would be running up to the piano with special cues, games were played learning pieces - even aural activities were a game. In general the place became a bustling games area! .... And the other thing that started happening was that we were suddenly growing out of control. We only had a small music school premises, but suddenly there was no room left in the car park, in the hallways and parents wanted to start learning in this method as well in our lunch hour!....many had told us that MUSIC HAD NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN! On top of this, our older students started achieving the highest exam results we had ever seen...

So what changed?

All we did was come up with strategies in playing games. Basically we came up with literally thousands of games ideas and on a lesson to lesson basis and for two years we tested them, made them work and we taught them to our staff members and students. The spin off effect was that students started remembering more...and therefore achieved higher grades.

In essence this is what the FUN music company is about. We no longer have time to teach anymore because we are too busy packaging the ideas we have been using in our years as music teachers. It is impossible to be a teacher and to keep coming up with more and more ideas without an end in sight. So now we are ready to share these ideas with others.. so that they dont need to be spending years getting it right. Our passion is to make music learning fun and easy for everyone at the click of a button - not just for those in our home town, but to share it around the world and increase the enjoyment of music for everyone.

Music Offers One of the Most Exciting Careers

If you are serious about a contemporary music career, selecting the best type of music school education is very important. An ideal school is one that offers comprehensive, hands-on education in contemporary music performance (typically, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and voice), recording, songwriting, original music production, music business and related fields such as music video production and instrument-making.

Professionally-oriented schools offer programs designed to increase your technical skills, musicianship and performing experience to a level that will allow you to play any style of music. To evaluate the best schools of this type, you need to analyze the music course content along with the professional background of the instructors who teach them. Another valuable indicator is found in the record of students who have gone through the school - their success stories will tell you whether the school is providing relevant education.

Vocational music schools offer specialized training in instruments like guitar, keyboards, drums, bass, voice, and so on. Private instructors provide individualized training that suits your style and level while classes in technique, theory, and performance give you a broader foundation in musicianship.

Private schools and universities offer music programs ranging from Non-certificate training to Certificates, Associate Degrees, Bachelor Degrees, etc. Depending on your level of skill and the length of the program, you can either enhance and broaden your musical abilities for your own enjoyment or become an expert musician ready for concerts or the recording studio.

Hollywood, California is the location for several music institutes nurturing up-and-coming talent of different age groups. As the contemporary music capital of the world, Los Angeles also offers a vast number of private music teachers who can provide independent music lessons on typical contemporary instruments such as bass, guitar, keyboards, drum set and voice.

For the serious student, larger music institutes in Hollywood provide comprehensive training in contemporary music performance and technology, with courses designed by world-renowned music teachers and professionals.
Mi.edu - is the best music school in Los Angeles. Musicians Institute offers professional-level certificate and degree programs for guitar college program, bass, keyboards, percussion, voice, audio engineering, original music production, music business, guitar craft and music video, film & television production.

To Make Your Kids More Successful, Teach Them Music!

Benefits of Music Education Shown to Include Leadership and Teamwork Skills

Besides being a sure way to become the life of the party, learning to play an instrument can make your children smarter, better adjusted, and better equipped to adopt a position of leadership in a diverse world.

The idea that music education makes children smarter isn't just our opinion. Music has a mathematical precision; the rhythms, pitches, and motifs in musical composition can all be expressed with numbers and equations. Maybe that is why the 1993 Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) showed above-average scores in both mathematical and verbal portions of the test by high school students who studied music. At the time, President Bill Clinton and Education Secretary Richard Riley were calling for enriched arts education for all children.

Being smart is important, but it's also critical that children be well adjusted. Children with music education—especially in a school setting with other musicians—develop the key people-skills that are essential to functioning in society, including teamwork, problem solving, and leadership. They gain from the hard work of music mastery, learning self-discipline and self-worth through accomplishments. Studies demonstrate that the students most likely to be elected to class office, achieve the highest grades, or receive honors for academic achievement are the students who—you guessed it—study music.

There is also an impossible to quantify, yet essential quality that music adds to each of our lives. If, as argued by the Oxford Review of Education as far back as 1996, the richness of music is itself enough justification for the teaching of it , then are music's other benefits unimportant? We do not believe so. Music education should—and does—have measurable benefits.

What we know is that music education helps children improve academic skills, develop leadership skills, and gain a sense of accomplishment. We also know that support for music education in public schools is always under financial pressure. You may have to resort to private or virtual lessons to help your children learn music. Be involved, pay attention, and behave as if your children's music education is as important as math and writing education. Why? Because it is.

But if that doesn't convince your son or daughter to study music, perhaps the fact that musicians are the life of the party will! Guitar players and singers and pianists are always in demand, no matter what the venue; whether in church musical groups or jazz combos or contemporary rock groups, with bass players and drummers close behind. With the current decline in support for music and arts education, it is more important than ever for parents to encourage their children to study music.

The Music Industry - Flaunting Jewellery & Watches

When you think about watches, you think about time, but you may as well also think about music! The truth of the matter is that jewelry in general and watches in particular have always been a part of music. Whether you are thinking about watching your favorite music videos or even of listening to the lyrics themselves, you will find that watches and jewelry play a huge part in the music we love and the songs that we sing.

In the first place, you will find that since the beginning of time, we have loved to adorn ourselves and to make ourselves beautiful with jewelry. After all, “Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” just wouldn't be the same without the diamonds! Jewels are a sign of leisure, something purely ornamental there because we find them lovely. They are things that are offered with love, and in darker songs, they are returned frostily to an erring lover. Music and jewels go together like peas in a pod!

You will find that in many ways, the same can be said of watches. Take a look at the hip hop genre, where you are sure to see the stars sporting some amazingly gorgeous and unashamedly pricey timepieces to match their blinged out chains. When people want to show off how much money and power they have, the jewelry that they wear plays such an important part in it. Think about how you know that a singer is rich, or doing well for himself or how you know that he's got cash and he's not ashamed to spend it You can bet if the song touches on this at all that he's going to be sporting some seriously expensive watches or jewelry or often both!

Even when a song doesn't reference a watch specifically, see how often they are depicted in music videos where time passes. When the girl checks her watch to see when her boyfriend is going to come home, or when you see a clock move to denote the passage of time, watches are being referenced as something that tell a story. Watches mark the passing of time and you will see them used over and over again by artists and musicians and writers. The appeal of beautiful watch is something that really transcends genre!.

Take some time and make sure that you think about what watches mean in your favorite media. Is someone waiting on someone they love or does the singer want everyone to know how rich he is? You will find that you have every reason to think about watches. You can bet that the younger generation is taking notice and that watches now mean more than they ever have!

Wii Fit – Big Hit this Christmas

Every year around Christmas time, shopping experts start to look at what products they believe will be the most popular.

This Christmas it seems that it’s the Nintendo Wii Fit’s year as it heads to the top of the shopping charts for the most popular gift bought this Christmas.

The way that the experts work out which item is most likely to be the most popular Christmas gift is by looking at which items are being searched for on the internet most often. It has been found this year that the Wii Fit is going to head the list with one in six video games and consoles searches in October being for the Nintendo unit.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the console though, as there has been tough competition from the Apple iPhone and the Nokia N96. However, there have been many reports that shops have been selling out of the console and have not been able to meet the consumer demand but, as of yet, shops seem to be keeping up with the demand for the iPhone and the N96.

Nintendo seem to be having a lot of success recently as their consoles are selling very well. The Nintendo DS handheld console has been a huge success and has actually managed to outsell Sony’s PSP model.

Part of the appeal for the Nintendo Wii Fit has been that it can assist you in your fight to lose weight. With so many people trying different techniques in order to lose some weight, playing on a video game in order to lose the extra pounds has appealed to many as it sounds like a much more entertaining and fun method than the more traditional means.

Mp3 Download – The Easy Way To Download Your Favorite Music

Download Your Favorite Music Through MP3 Download
There is a growing trend among music lovers to download the free mp3 music from the Internet from the file sharing programs. The number of lovers of music who download for their mp3 player or iPod in this way is over sixty million. However, it must be realized that downloading this way also brings certain risks factors with the process.

But first the benefits of downloading music from the different mp3 sharing programs. The best part is that one gets them absolutely free that otherwise one has to pay to buy. One can also download as many files or the size of files as one likes to, as there are no limits. With the coming of p2p file sharing technology, it is now very easy to search quickly and download music files at a press of a button.

There are numerous ways to download these music files legally which are affordable. These ways are risk free and there are no need to worry as well. However, the downloads could sometimes cost many times that of a single file download and could also be a source of hazard to the computer. It is better to download music from some buyout music company as the tracks are then licensed. One can download the favorite music along with stream music to devices that use Bluetooth.

However, there are certain risks involved in downloading music files in this way. The biggest danger of downloading music files from the sharing programs is the spyware and also being sued for infringement of copyright. Many of the files sharing programs help the spyware, adware and other viruses about the users of these p2p networks. These free source programs are free and are clubbed together with spyware to slow down the performance of the computer. The adware tracks and reports on the online activities.

Then there is the risk from other users of these p2p networks, whose files could be a potential danger. However, it is the sharing and distribution of these copyright works that has not received the legal license by the mp3 file sharing programs which is the main concern in the download process. It must be known that downloading and sharing the copyrighted music that does not have the license for offering digital distribution is the most vexing issue concerning mp3 downloading. By downloading these files, you are exposing yourself of getting sued by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for copyright violation.

To avoid these risks, the user of mp3 file sharing programs can take certain steps to eliminate these risks or reduce them to a certain extent. It cannot be denied that the excitement is hard to control while getting download of the free mp3 music from the file sharing programs. However, one cannot resist the risks involved with the hardware along with personal finances. However, if you want an unlimited free mp3 download and give the risks involved lower priority, then these downloads are the best ways out.

What To Look For In An Mp3 Provider

In the industry of MP3 sales, the latest buzz pertains to the low costing MP3sale downloading websites.. At an MP3Sale website, users are offered access to a variety of MP3s, from thousands of different artists, and every download is offered at a particular price. There are certain things that consumers should look for before signing up and becoming an MP3Sale site member, and such things include a good price for MP3 downloads, high quality downloads, an easy registration process, a good selection in terms of genre, and simplified site navigation.

The prices supplied by an MP3sale provider need to be within reason if the site is to prove at all valuable to the consumer. When visiting an MP3sale provider’s site, the first thing that most consumers look at is the cost per track and album download. Finding and MP3sale provider that supplies considerable discounts on track and album download is vital for the MP3 consumer looking to download a lot of tracks or albums over a period of time. In terms of costs, consumers are also going to want to seek out an MP3sale provider that does not charge for membership; there are plenty of providers offering fast, free registration without the added fees associated with membership enrollment or signup.

Price of MP3s offered does not always equate to quality in terms of the MP3s offered and this is where the consumer needs to be super careful. The way an MP3 is encoded will be the determining factor in whether or not the sound files sold by an MP3sale provider are of good quality or not; those files encoded with super low bit rates usually have artifacts in them that make them less desirable MP3 downloads overall.

Before becoming a member at any MP3sale site, it is equally important to determine what types of payment options that the site accepts. Most sites today diversify their payment options, giving the consumer a range of payment options to choose from. A consumer can visit a site to determine what payment options are offered by an MP3sale provider, or they can scan a few MP3sale reviews to get a good idea about the range of options afforded to them by various MP3 providers. When it comes to payment options, users of mobile phone devices might want to seek out a provider that supplies mobile phone download buying and download features as well.

Finding tracks and albums needs to be easy an easy process on the consumer looking to use an MP3sale provider’s services too. Consumers should opt for a site that has a professional look, an attractive layout, and that has everything presented in such a way that it is easy for the consumer to find. The majority of today’s MP3sale providers supply the consumer with a variety of search options. Consumers can often seek out tracks and albums by the names of the artist’s that interest them, by the track name, or by the specific genre.

In brief, there are a number of things that consumers need to look for before purchasing MP3s from any MP3sale website. Consumers need to demand high quality MP3s which have had appropriate bit rate compressions methods used in their creation, and such tracks need to be affordably priced. Professional MP3 selling websites supply the consumer with ease of MP3 access, and super friendly registration processes as well. Finally, the most superior MP3 selling website will give MP3 seeking consumers much in terms of MP3 diversity; the more artists, tracks, albums and genres presented to the consumer in terms of selection, the better.

How To Read Music Notes

The core of reading music is the music notes. Sure, you couldn’t really read it right if you didn’t understand the base and treble clefs or the rests, but the notes are the music. The notes tell you the melody and the harmony. You can’t read music if you can’t read music notes.

It’s not the music note itself that decides the note, it’s where it is placed on the bar. When you see a sheet of music, you don’t see letters, you just see notes. There are seven different notes named from A to G. Let’s first talk about the treble clef, or the top bar. The note across the bottom line is E and the note that sits on that line is F. As you go up, the notes are either on the line or between the lines. Note D is right under the bottom line and C sits alone underneath with a small line through it. Once the notes have gone from C to B up the bar, it starts back at C. These next notes are another octave lower. On the base clef, it is the same except that it goes down.

Not every note is help for the same amount of time. The black notes you are used to seeing are help for one count by themselves. If there are two attached together by the stems, each count as one half count. If three notes are strung together, the counts must add up to one. When notes are strung together, they are shorter.

There are also longer notes. A note with a stem that is a circle and not filled in is help for two counts, a note filled in with a stem and a dot is help for three counts, and a large circle without a stem is held for an entire measure. The length of these notes also depends on the time of the piece of music. Some music is counted in fours, others longer or shorter.

These are just the bare basics of reading music. There is so much more to learn before you can begin to play. You need to know the notes and everything around them. Don’t feel intimidated because it’s not as difficult as it sounds. Check out the link below to find more information and advanced study. You can find more visual help if words are too difficult for you.

Is Appple iPhone worth its price?

Apple, the software maker is more popularly known as iPhone maker these days. It is the most hyped gadget of recent times with a spectacular launch.

Dream gadget of users, wannabe device for style definers, and luxury device for rich people; it fits to all in each category. Its boasting looks and features have left others far behind in the race.

iPhone has been debuted in Indian markets also and for no surprise, it is selling like hot cakes. Host for a bundle of features and most significantly the touchscreen, the device lacks many basic features which are wannabe these days.

The article will enlist all such features:

Absence of Video Recording is the most disappointing feature of the iPhone. For INR 31,000, feature’s presence was must to have as is today found in most basic cell phones even at lower ends.

No high resolution camera: When market is flooded with phones having camera up to 8 MP, 2MP camera is still a very disappointing feature. It is really a very petty feature. Above all, optical zoom and flash are also missing.

Forget Cut, Copy and Paste: With smart PDAs in the market cut, copy and paste is a feature that makes its presence to be felt. But Apple is not in the same bag. It has stayed away from it and no surprise, has invited the rage from users. Usually, every PDA in the market is equipped with this basic utility but with iPhone you will have to type word by word everything same rather than copying it from say, like web.

No Bluetooth: Sharing of files or data on phones using Bluetooth is a common practice with cell phone users. But it seems that Apple has forgotten the fact while designing iPhone. iPhone can’t sync with Bluetooth stereo or in-car Bluetooth hands-free. It lacks A2DP on Bluetooth.

No Replacable battery: Most funny thing, you cannot change the battery of a cell phone at your own. This is really irritating but if you are an iPhone user, you will have to face it. To replace the battery, you have to send it to Apple store and then sustain for 2-3 days which is really very stupid thing to do nowadays.

Forget about sending forwards and MMS: Making it simpler, in nut shell it can be said that you can only send text messages or snapshots of e-mail texts, but completely wipe it from your mind that you can use your iPhone for sending MMS occasionally to your friends. Even sending the same SMS to multiple contacts at single point of time is rather a no feature and simply saying sorry impression for users.

The next sorry feature is the absence of support for Adobe files. In simpler words, you cannot view Flash files on your iPhone. Thus, the lack of Flash support for the Safari Web browser limits the access of several websites on the iPhone.

Above all and may be the most disappointing feature, it is really a tedious job to get support from operators in setting iPhone. No support for customizing ring tones. The feature that misses it on the list of professional users is the “push” email feature which is enjoyed by all BlackBerry users and is the best way for them to stay in touch with office while physically away from that.

How To Import Free Audio Books Mp3 Files To An Ipod File

Here are the following steps to convert your MP3 CD audio books into a file format you can listen to on an iPod. (These instructions will work for an iPod 5 or 6)
Check to see that you itunes import settings are correct for an audio book.

You can do this by going into the Preferences/Importing section and be sure you have the settings for spoken word. Next, insert the MP3 CD and find it on "My Computer". Using Windows Explorer, open the correctly titled CD and find the 'playlist.m3u' file. Double click the file to open it with your iTunes. Your audio book will probably begin playing as iTunes start importing the file. Hit the pause button to stop the playback.

Listening to the book now would be interrupted when you go through the next few steps. Let iTunes finish importing your file. It could take a little while to finish, but al least you don't have to swap out CD's to import all of the audio book.

Be sure your audio book tracks have the title of the book in the file name. Search for the title in the iTunes search field. You want to see a window showing all of the imported files and nothing more. Select all of those files or tracks for your audio book.

Click on the "Advanced menu" and choose "convert selection to AAC". This will convert all of those large files to an AAC field, which will save you a good deal of disk space. This again may take some time. When you are done, you will have duplicated all those tracks from your audio book.

While this does not finish your process, it has duplicated the MP3 audio books download files to iPod files.

Have Handwriting Skills Been Superseded By Technology?

Setting targets that are too easy seems pointless; too hard and those not in contention become demoralised. Sue Palmer believes the long-term effect of the new policy would do more harm than good. The scheme, part of a four billion pound investment into early learning scheduled over the next two years, is therefore questionable.

It is an unfortunate start. The scheme has the right motivation but perhaps lacks the accountability which may have ensured it was thoroughly tested before launch. If government departments could be measured on results the efficacy of many schemes would be more closely reviewed. The problem starts at the top. Ministerial appointments are inevitably transitory. The tenure of the secretary for education historically has lasted around 18 months. But the measure of the effectiveness of educational policy takes a generation of children to measure its impact. Historically it was always a predecessors’ idea - unless it worked. But is Sue Palmer right this time?

In an age of computerised communication; e-mails, texts, technology with built in spell check and predictive text, the need to write anything may seem to be superfluous. Cheques are virtually obsolete, even the signature on credit card slips has been replaced by a pin number. Mind you we do get to sign the back of the credit card every two years, and a passport application every ten years. But do you find you have to practice your signature before signing the secure strip that makes it unreadable anyway. Hardly a burdensome task, so do we need to write anything?

Shopping lists could shortly be replaced with bar code scans, or even the fridge could order online for you. Purchases are made more and more on line requiring typing skills and the deft control of the mouse. Even the mouse could be replaced by a touch screen.

Obviously handwriting skills intermesh with spelling. This leads us to another quandary. Teaching children to spell and write words as they sound involves the definition of “phonic.” Where the P and H of phonic of course being pronounced as an “f.” But no worry, as the device the kids will ultimately use to communicate will be a cell phone, with camera, spell check and predictive text - assuming that text abbreviations don’t completely take over.

If a more complex message is required then one of the new mini laptops, or knee tops is ideal. These incredible devices incorporate all the functions of the PC in a case weighing 1kg and a screen of 7inches. Highly portable they could tuck into a small backpack - or even a hood. Not as daft as it sounds. I once met a Berber in Morocco who wore the long traditional cloak and used the hood as a vast pocket.

If handwriting and spelling skills are an essential form of communication they are under attack, but they have one great defence. They work when the powers gone, the battery’s flat, the pc has crashed and credit is exhausted. Yes, in this rapidly developing technical world we still need to learn how to read, write and spell!

How to Fall in Love With Your Guitar After You Buy Your Guitar Online

Before you read this article I want you to ask yourself a question. Do you love your guitar? Do you really love it? Do you have to have it by your side at all times or are you content with it sitting in the closet. I know you have just buy you guitar online and I know you think that you it's the best thing and you want to shred till the cows come home. But what's going to happen in a month from now are you going to feel the same? If you really want to become the best guitarist that you can be then you should continue reading because if you follow my advice you will never look at your guitar in the same way again.

First start by tuning to E-B-E-G#-B-E, or D-A-D-A-D-E, or any other tuning that, when strummed open, sounds sweet and clean and true. Strum open until you can't resist the urge to do something on the fretting side.

Start fretting with one finger, pushing it up and down and all over the place, chunking on all six strings if you want. Count 1 to 4, 1 to 3, 1 to 6, or just 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1.....

Do this until you know where to put that one finger to reflect what you want to hear. Do it until, when you have that finger in a certain place, and in your mind you hear what comes next, you can put your finger where your mind suggests.

Start using two fingers, pushing them up and down and all over the place. Notice the patterns-some close together, some straddled, some split wide. Hear what works and what doesn't. Then, notice how anything can work, depending on many things. If you've been using a pick, put it down. Pinch your index finger between middle finger and thumb, and use the index to pluck. Do this until until your two fret fingers and your index plucking finger begin to form calluses.

Stop. Put the guitar away. Go to a museum or a baseball game. Paint a picture. Read poems. Study the films of Kevin Smith or Quentin Tarantino. Stay away from the guitar until your fledgling calluses vanish, or until you can't stand being away from it any longer. Then pick it up again.

One finger, two fingers. Then on to fretting with three. Rebuild the callus on your plucking index. Allow loose pluck-hand fingers to strike open strings whenever and wherever they want. Start humming as you play. Start tapping your foot as you play.

Sit down and play for an hour straight, without stopping. If you can go longer, go. Go until your hands feel mittened by heat, and you're not thinking about anything anymore, but maybe there are tears going down your face. Then, when you realize what has happened to you, it will all fall apart, and you'll have to put the guitar down, maybe for several days.

The rest of your life, you'll be trying to get back into that feeling that just fell apart.
After you have fallen in love with your guitar then I highly suggest you check out this site for some more great guitar information and some free lessons.

Your Skill Checklist in Learning to Play the Guitar

Learning to play the guitar may be easy, but there are still good and bad habits that you should always keep in mind. The rules are simple: take note of the following do's and don'ts so that you don't waste your time and effort for nothing.

It takes time and patience to play the guitar. If you don't have these two qualities, you might as well throw your guitar away because it can only bore and annoy you. Investing patience means listening to the song you want to play as frequently as possible. You are trying to get the idea of the song, so it is advisable to really get familiar with the song. Learning to play the guitar means that you have to be able to detail out every melody, pitch and frequency of the notes and patterns of the chords being played. Transferring the melodies to the guitar is easy once you are able to find out how the songs has been produced in the first place.

If you are really interested in learning to play the guitar then you should first master finger variations. You can do it if you are already familiar with the chords as these are the most fundamental knowledge for every guitarist. You cannot even play the simplest melody without the knowledge of guitar chords because these are the basics of learning the guitar. Once you have mastered them, your fingers will naturally follow.

The next thing to learn is strumming. Good strumming will enable you to play the guitar as a rhythm guitarists of a band or as a solo performer, just to amaze your friends. A good musician must be well-balanced and equipped when it comes to guitar skills - that is, he or she must be capable of both plucking and strumming. There are several ways in strumming your guitars and these are usually coupled with patterns to induce variations and style. Learning the correct strumming is relatively difficult because you have to maintain a steady and firm tempo and still be able to follow the melody. You can do this by constantly listening to the song you wish to play. Also, strum the strings according to the type of music - if you are playing jazz music with a too determined (rock style) type of stumming, it will simply sound wrong and it will be easily recognised as a mistake you are making. Because of that you should always get to know the song well enough to know what goes with it and what doesn't.

If you are a guitar beginner, then you can rely on tablatures as they provide guitarists the finger patterns of the notes without having to deal with too many difficulties of actually figuring out the song on your own. If you are finding it hard to read and study tabs, don't waste too much time on a single part of the song you just can't get right - this will just slow you down and that won't be helpful in your guitar lessons at all, because you need to advance quite quickly in order to stay motivated. It's strongly advised to break the song down into smaller parts (intro, verse, chorus, solo, outro) and learn them one at a time. There are several advantages of using tablatures. With them, you can learn to play your favourite song quite accurately in a matter of hours or less. You can also learn only the part of the song that you are interested in playing. All the same, learning to play the guitar through reading tabs still requires a lot of patience and effort, but it's all guaranteed to be worth your while.

Will Griffin has been playing both acoustic and electric guitar for more than 10 years. For his guitar needs he visits YourChords.com.

Learn Guitar Online - 10 Tips to Play Fast on Guitar

Playing lead guitar fast and accurate is the goal of many aspiring guitarists. Unfortunately, only about 5% achieve their objective, the other 95% manage to play fast and sloppy.

Speed comes as a by-product of accuracy, unless a guitarist develops clean, accurate guitar technique that has both left and right hands working in prefect co-ordination true will never be achieved.

The first thing to learn is to slow down... that's right, in order to play fast we need to slow down!

We need to keep in mind that we are always listening to the final product when we hear music on the radio, CD's etc., we never get to hear a the guitarist or band rehearsing.

Here's ten tips that are guaranteed to overcome that musical brick wall that all guitarist's run into when trying to play fast on the guitar.

1. Use a thick pick: Make sure to use a medium to thick guitar pick, standard shape guitar picks work best. Avoid thin picks, they are the first hazard in developing a solid technique.

2. Use medium - heavy set of strings: I recommend .012 as the first string through to.052 for the sixth. Narrow gauge strings do not create enough resistance to develop left hand strength (assuming the player is right handed).

As the majority of guitars come equipped with .009 to .042 or .010 to .046 gauge strings you may need to have a guitar set-up especially for technical practice.

3. Medium to High action: Set up your action high enough to eliminate buzzes.

4. Warm up slowly: Just like any sporting event, your fingers need to warm up slowly. Play notes all over the fingerboard slowly. This is to get your fingers used to the differences in action travel between high and low notes on the fretboard as well as the variation in fret size.

5. Use a metronome: Your first objective should be to be able to play a steady stream of eight notes at a metronome marking of 60. we need to be patient with ourselves and remember that "music comes when it's ready... not when we're ready".

6. Add eight note triplets: As you build confidence with your eight note practice I recommend starting a separate practice session playing a steady stream of eight note triplets.

Begin the eight note triplet practice once you have achieved a metronome tempo of 120 with your eight notes.

7. Combine eight notes and eight note triplets: As you build your eight note triplet practice tempo up to a metronome setting of 108 try a combination of eight notes and eight note triplets.

Each time you start a type of practice session, eight note triplets or combination of eight note and eight note triplets remember to start back at a slower tempo 60 or 72 and then build up speed again.

8. Add hammer-on: When you are ready add the hammer-on technique to your eight note and eight note triplet practice sessions.

9. Pull-off technique: The next technique to add is the "pull off" as you combine the hammer on and pull off technique you will notice your speed developing.

10. Slides: Another important technique to practice with your metronome is the "slide" technique. Slides, hammer on's and pull off's will add a new level of interest to your playing, remember to keep in time with the metronome.

Guitarists are obsessed with playing fast, keep in mind (a) the pursuit of technique is endless (b) let the music take you to the technique you need ... translated, you only need enough technique to be able to play what you are hearing.

Just because someone can type fast, does not automatically what they are typing is communicating anything!

Practice these techniques and you will notice a new confidence in your playing.

Improving Your Search Rankings With SEO and Backlinks

What are backlinks?

When a site finds your site interesting and valuable it would ask you to allow to "connect" to your site by displaying a link on their site whereby their visitors would appreciate the added value. These links are known backlinks. Just as a professional's value is counted by the number of important clients they get, so a website is judged by the number of high quality links they get. The search engines use these as an important indicator that measures the quality of the website in question.

How do backlinks affect your business?

Visibility is one of the most critical aspects to e-business. There are millions of businesses launched everyday which within a year would dwindle to a few thousands. Why? Because these e-enterprises are unable to build a special niche for themselves in the virtual world. The equation is crystal clear: you see the website, you visit; you do no see it how can you visit it?

This visibility depends upon the speed with which a search engine matches a keyword with your website. In order to increase the speed and rank, your website should fulfill certain criteria of search, such as excellent content, great keyword optimization and building of backlinks. Each one of these aspects would tell the search engine that this your website is a great match to the search. High quality backlinks in particular are a confirmation that others feel this website provides good material.

Quality of the backlinks is very important, not only the number. For example, a website might have hundreds of links from various discussion forums, while another would have 20-30 links from highly reputed websites. The search engines would value the latter over the former ans the quality of the backlinks are higher.

Obtaining backlinks needs practice

Building links is not as easy as it sounds. It takes practice, patience and high quality content. If you want to attract great links and ensure that your business grows from strength to strength, you would never compromise on quality in any aspect of your business. There is not easier way to commit suicide in the virtual world, than using inferior quality material, content or products. The great thing about maintaining high quality is that it would make others want to be associated with you and therefore ask for permission to link to your website; and this is how you build backlinks.

Whether you use any promotional offer or article writing, building links takes practice and patience. You would also need to have an unflinching commitment to quality. Even if you leave comments on forums, use only reputed forums and social networks, where your comments would be valued at par.

For Teens - Make Money Online With Blogs

Here is a moneymaking idea for teens -- make money online by blogging. If you're not sure what blogging is, it's like keeping a diary -- only it's an online diary. Entries written in traditional diaries vary in their subjects from day to day -- depending on the events of each day. But it is usually best if your blog centers on a particular subject -- perhaps your favorite hobby. For example, if you enjoy video or computer games then you might start a blog about them. You could write about your favorite games and any hints or tips you have learned that might help others when playing their games.

Every time you make a post to your blog you could recommend a particular game, or maybe even a tutorial on playing a game. These are called affiliate programs, and you would include a special link that contains your affiliate ID. Whenever a visitor to your blog clicks on that link, and buys the product, you would get paid a commission.

There are countless affiliate products that you could recommend -- they can be physical products, or instantly downloadable digital products. Commissions paid on digital products are much higher than those paid on physical products. If you want to sell digital products such as e-books and downloadable software, then Clickbank is the best place to start because they specialize in digital products. It will cost you nothing to join them and you can then choose whichever products you want to promote from their marketplace. Because their products are digital, commissions are usually at least 50% or more of the price of the product.

To start a blog, you may want to use Wordpress. You will need to buy a domain name for it -- for this you will need to pay a small yearly fee. You will also need Web hosting to host your blog -- if you search online you should be able to find plenty of Web hosting companies that charge you around $3-$4 per month.

Squidoo

If you want to avoid these costs, you can. Simply sign up with Squidoo.com and put your blog there. You won't need to pay for a domain name and there are no Web hosting fees. Squidoo provides you with as much Web space as you want -- each page is called a lens, but it is in effect the same thing as a blog. What's more, you can have as many lenses (blogs) as you want -- and each on a different subject. You could have a lens on your favorite games, movies, and sports -- whatever you want. And on each one of them you could be promoting affiliate products and making money online. It's best to have your affiliate products closely related to the subject of your lens or blog.

Once you are used to working with blogs, you could expand and build your own website. Simply search the Net for tutorials to help you do this. This would be just the beginning. From here you could move on to bigger and better ways of making money online.

Basics of Online Commerce For Your Internet Business

The basic premise behind online commerce systems is simple. You sign up for the service and the service creates an account for you, much like a bank. You can then add funds to your account by any number of methods: transferring money from your account, charging a credit card, or selling products and receiving payments. In order to get your money offline, you can either use a debit card linked directly to your account on the commerce system, or you can link your online account to an offline bank account, allowing you to transfer money freely between the two accounts--with a necessary time delay, of course. (This model of commerce won't be followed in exactly this way by every commerce system, of course--check the policies of your particular commerce system to get specific information for you. If you coded your own commerce system, it'll be a matter between you and your bank, of course.)

The basic premise is simple, yes--but in terms of actual implementation, there are some complicated details. Being aware of and working around these details is going to be the key to success for any good online commerce operation--and as we've said, if you're going to sell products online you need a good online commerce operation.

One important issue is the time delay in transferring your money from your online account to your offline account--not a major issue much of the time (the actual delay is anywhere from one to four business days), but at certain critical moments--if you need your money close to the end of the month in order to pay rent on office space or to pay bandwidth costs, for example--it can become a problem. So make sure that you take into account the time delay when you're scheduling payments or purchases according to your business plan--or make sure that you have a debit card or other payment option from your commerce system, eliminating the time delay altogether.

Another issue (that hopefully won't be an issue in the future) is the problem of online security. We talked about this in terms of your website earlier in the book. But it's also vital to think about it in terms of your commerce system bank account--and your bank account in general. Again, we talked earlier about how commerce systems that you design yourself need to be secure enough to protect you and your customers from hackers, which not only give your business a bad name, but could wipe out your entire balance in minutes. Commerce systems that you design yourself don't have as much of a problem in this regard--usually a large staff of people exists to protect the integrity of online accounts. Depending on your protection policy, however, this can create new problems that you'll need to be aware of.

Certain online commerce systems take extremely harsh measures when dealing with compromised accounts: not only is your account locked and all of the balance within it seized, but the balance of any bank account linked to your online account is seized as well. This makes some amount of sense--if hackers can access your online account, they can just as easily access any linked offline accounts through bank transfers. And if you follow up with your commerce system on any identity theft or hacking issues, you can often get the balances returned to you. But following up takes some time, and in some cases--serious identity theft cases--you may not be able to get the money back at all.

So you'll need to integrate your bank account and your online account in such a way as to protect yourself from disaster--a rare event, of course, but one that can wipe out your business if you aren't careful. The simplest measure is this: set up two offline bank accounts for any online commerce system you're using. Link only one of those bank accounts to your online account. Whenever you receive payment online, transfer it to your linked offline account immediately--and then transfer it from your linked offline account to your other account, which has no direct link to the online part of your business. Even if your account is compromised and your accounts locked or seized, you can still keep your money safe so that it can keep your business running. (Better yet--check out your online commerce system and its account integrity policies thoroughly before you sign up and commit your business to it.)

Driving Traffic to a Blog - 3 Free Strategies For More Traffic

Blogging as you well know has become quite popular, and people do it for recreational purposes or to make money. Many people are now making a full time living entirely from blogging, not even owning a website. How can they do this? Its quite simple actually; you just drive traffic to your blog and watch the sales come in. Okay maybe it's a little harder than that, but once you start driving traffic to a blog, it is just a matter of time before you start seeing success with blogging. Here are 3 traffic generation strategies I have put together to hep you get increase traffic to your blog.

1. Advertise your site on craigslist or eBay via the classified ad format. Craigslist is free, and you can do it on ebay for only $9.95 per month. Once the person comes to your blog you can then give away a free report which will establish your credibility as an authority on the subject you are blogging about.

2. Driving traffic to a blog can also be enhanced by advertising via article marketing. Article marketing is one of the most overlooked methods of traffic generation and continues to produce great results for those who practice it often. So write articles on the subject of your blog, and include your blog address at the bottom of the article.

3. Use Yahoo answers to generate traffic. Questions proposed on Yahoo answers often gets ranked on the first page of Google or yahoo, and if you can provide a great answer to a proposed question your website or blog will get increased exposure.

These are just three strategies for more traffic, and all should be used for driving traffic to a blog. Remember the more traffic you generate, the more sales you will make.

Motorcycle Repair - Restoring Your Bike

Soaring fuel prices have made gas-guzzling cars very unpopular. Welcome to the resurgence of the motorcycle. Why? Because properly maintained motorcycles and motorcycle engines can get between 40 and 60 miles a gallon. Smaller scooters get upwards of 90 miles a gallon, pretty good for an economy with $4-per-gallon gasoline.

Because of this, bike sales have soared. Motorcycle repair, too, can come in handy. Do you have a bike in storage that you haven't dusted off for awhile? There's a good chance you can be among those restoring motorcycles so that you can ride your old road hog again.

Restoring your older motorcycle to working condition starts with some basic steps:

Check Fuel
If you didn't use a fuel stabilizer before you put the bike into storage, drain your old fuel (including tank, fuel lines and carburetor as applicable) before you run the engine, and put new in. Lubricate spark plug ports with a little oil, too, before you start things up.

Check Oil
Change the oil and filter if you didn't do so before you started. If you did, top levels off.

How Is Your Battery?
Make sure leads are not corroded and that the battery will fully charge and then hold a charge. If it doesn't, replace the battery.

Inspect The Chain
Because your chain transfers power from the engine to the rear wheel, it is very important that it be in excellent shape. Look the chain over for the following:

-- Is the chain the proper tension? You should be able to grasp it in the center and move it about one inch in either direction, up or down.

-- Are front and wheel sprocket teeth in good condition? If the teeth have grooves or "waves" in them or they show other signs of wear, you probably need new sprockets (chain will probably show similar wear and need replacement).

-- Check every single section of the chain for signs of wear and for proper tension. It should move about an inch when you pull on it. Tighten the chain if it's loose, and loosen it if it's tight. If the links themselves are too tight, you might need to replace the whole chain.

-- Clean dirt off the chain with a clean towel or rag before you apply lubricant. Make sure you thoroughly lubricate all sprocket teeth and links.

-- Lubricate the chain well. Remember that some solvents should not be used with rubber if your chain has rubber parts to it. Use a proper solvent and wipe off any excess lubricant with a clean rag.

-- Set chain tension properly by moving your rear wheel and axle forward or backward. Both sides of the axle should be aligned properly before you tighten things up or the chain and sprockets might wear out quickly. Tighten the axle nuts and replace the cotter pin with a new one if needed.

Fluid Levels
Brake, clutch and coolant levels should be checked as necessary. Make sure you replace missing brake fluid with a new container of the same brand you used last time. Let your bike idle for a few minutes before you take off so that all fluids circulate properly.

Tires and Suspension
Inspect everything thoroughly before you take your first ride. If you kept your bike stored upright on a kickstand, make sure your tires aren't cracked, marked, or flat. In addition, check to make sure tire wear and air levels are good.

The PDF version of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Inspection checklist is available here: http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/T-CLOCSInspectionChecklist.pdf. It's a good idea to go through it before putting your old bike on the road again.

The above tips on repairing motorcycles should have you up and running in no time. So go on, and get ready to feel the pull of the open road again.
